Hydrafacial and Dermaplaning: Totally Worth It {with Bare Med Spa}

Earlier this year, I made it a goal to really start taking care of my skin more and actually get into a routine. I have now been going to see Maddie at Bare Med Spa for a monthly facial since July, as well as using professional grade products, and my skin has already come so far from where it was. So far, I have tried an oxygen facial and two hydrafacials, as well as dermaplaning!

For the longest time, I had great skin, and didn’t have to worry about wearing concealer for errands. I only had the occasional breakout during that time of the month or if I went to sleep wearing makeup(I know, SO BAD!). But, sometime in late 2018/early 2019 my skin FREAKED out! I started breaking out more, getting dry patches, and didn’t feel comfortable going out of the house without concealer or some makeup on. I was so upset because I was not used to this skin I was in now at all. I know several factors attributed to it, such as stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and not drinking enough water or exercising enough. I took on more than I could handle with my full time job, real estate, the blog, and home projects, and it was showing.

So, I decided I needed to get professional help and enlisted Bare Med Spa to help me get my skin back on the right track. They have a couple locations in the Kansas City area as well, so you should have one close to you! Each month, I am getting closer to the skin I used to have, and taking better care of myself. I wanted to share with you all what we have done so far to help my skin situation, as well as a few of the products my esthetician has recommended that have really helped as well! For reference, my skin is combination, with a dry to oily T-Zone and then dry overall, so hydration and exfoliation are key for my skin type.

Here is the breakdown of what I have done month by month:

July–Oxygen Facial

This month I went in so my esthetician, Maddie, could take a look at my skin and assess my needs overall. We decided to go with an Oxygen Facial this time since my skin was in desperate need of hydration at that time! This facial is often referred to as the red carpet facial, since a lot of stars use this to get that extra glow before a big event.

The Oxygen facial delivers a high concentration of oxygen molecules infused with vitamins, minerals, essential nutrients, and botanical extracts is applied with a machine directly to your skin to really hydrate and plump and reduce visible signs of aging. It also helps promote collagen growth, which we need as we get older to keep skin looking youthful and healthy! A few other benefits with this type of facial is that it detoxifies the skin, and speeds up cell turnover to get those younger, healthy skin cells to the top layer! It also helps with acne, treats uneven skin tone, and overall gives you an incredible glow! There is no downtime at all afterwards, so you can go on about your day like normal.

My skin was so happy after my Oxygen facial and I was literally glowing, as you can see in my after photo below!

August–Hydrafacial with Dermaplane

I had heard so many great things about the Hydrafacial, which is one of the most popular facials that Bare Med Spa does, so I had to try it! I also decided to do a dermaplane add on this time to help my skin really benefit from the hydrafacial itself.

First, let’s talk dermaplaning. Your esthetician takes a small scalpel and gently scrapes the surface of your skin to get off all the fine hairs on your face and exfoliate and sluff off the dead skin. I promise it doesn’t hurt at all and isn’t scary! The reason we did this first is to allow the hydrafacial products to really penetrate more and work their magic.

Now, for the hydrafacial. If you have not tried one yet, it is a must! They are super popular for a reason since they really help to unclog pores, exfoliate, and make your skin look it’s best! There is no downtime at all, and it is not painful at all! The hydrafacial has five steps to it, which I will break down for you, and uses a tool to do a slight microdermasion while using suction to extract blackheads, whiteheads, dirt, debris, and oil.

Now for the different steps:

Step 1. Cleansing and exfoliating

Step 2. A light peel to soften up pores

Step 3. Extractions(the best part in my opinion!)

Step 4. Salicyclic acid treatment to help skin after extractions

Step 5. Infuses back all vitamins, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, minerals, and antioxidants.

My skin was so smooth, glowy, and my pore size reduced after this facial!

September–Hydracial

This month we did a hydrafacial again per my esthetician’s recommendation, and I am so happy we did! My pores are so clean and small right now and my makeup is going on so much smoother afterwards! You can check out all my thoughts on each treatment on my Instagram stories under the Bare Med Spa highlight tab here.

Next month, we will be doing a dermaplane with a chemical peel, so I will be sharing how that goes! Let me know any questions you do have so I can be sure to have them ready for Maddie!

Products

My skin is super dry and I was having some breakouts, so my esthetician recommended I cleanse morning and night with an antibacterial cleanser that is super gentle. It is on the pricier side, but a little goes a LONG way! You only need one pump.

I also am using this moisturizer, which is super lightweight but gives you so much hydration! A little goes a long way with this as well, so you really only need a pea size amount for your whole face. It is on the expensive side as well, but so worth it in my opinion!
